Newspaper web publishing system Features

Updated with any web browser

The system is updated with a web browser. This means that no matter what you are using, from Windows to Macs to Web TV, you can update the web site any time from any where. There is no need to install a proprietary client on your computers to update the web site.

You and your staff do not need to learn HTML in order to update the web site. You update it by simply pasting or typing the text of an article or classified ad into a web browser and clicking on the Submit button.

When you want to change the design of the web site you can do so quickly and easily. The system was designed so that you can make a change one time and that change will affect the entire site, not just a single web page.

Date Driven

The system was designed to allow you to specify when an article will be displayed on the site. When you post a new article to the web site you specify what date to start to display the article and how long to display the article. The system displays the article for the time that you specified and then archives it so that visitors to the site can still search for it and view it at a later date. The system was designed from the ground up to give you control of when an article or ad is displayed on the web site.

Searchable

The system maintains an archive of old articles without displaying them on the web site. This allows visitors to search for an article that they read last week, last month, or last year without needing to come in to your office in a hope that you still have an old copy of the newspaper which they can buy. Plus it allows people who have moved out of town to search for articles on their friends and family who still live in the area. This gives your advertisers more exposure.

Interactive

The Internet allows much more variety in content than a printed publication does. One of the biggest advantages of the Internet is the ability to have an interactive web site where visitors can discuss articles or share their favorite family recipes. Plus you can put more photos and articles on the web site than you have room for in your printed publication. This differentiates the on line version of the newspaper from the printed version without taking anything away from the printed version.

* You still can not read the on line version of the paper while you're sitting on your front porch and it is still much easier to read the printed version than anything displayed on a monitor. The Internet complements your existing publication and gives you a new revenue stream on top of your existing revenue stream. It does not compete with your existing business.

Modular and Expandable

You can customize the system to your needs and choose which parts you wish to buy based on your needs. If you decide at a later date that you need a feature which you did not want initially you can easily purchase it and add it onto the system. Plus if there is a feature which is not part of the system but which you need the system can be expanded to include that feature. It is very flexible and it's growth will depend on your needs.

Affordable

Last, but not least, is pricing. The system was designed from the ground up to be affordable. It can be purchased outright and you can run it on your own server or you can purchase it as a service with a monthly fee and we will run it on our server for you.

If you run it on your server it will be more expensive initially and you will have to purchase the hardware and software to run the system or host it at a FileMaker Pro web hosting company. However you will have full control of the system and you will be able to customize it yourself as you see fit.

If you purchase it as a monthly service and we run it for you you won't have to worry about purchasing the hardware and software to run the system on. You also won't have to worry about maintaining the server, we will take care of all of that for you. However you will not have the same level of access and control over the server that you will have if you run the system yourself.
